Private journal can describe several different systems: local files, an end-to-end encrypted sync service, a shared journal with chosen members, a general-purpose chat with account controls, or a server-readable journal that processes entries for AI readback. Compare the actual flow before comparing privacy adjectives.
No single privacy label answers where content lives, who can receive it, what an optional feature changes, or whether the service can decrypt it.

Start with the content path
Trace one entry from capture through local storage, sync, AI processing, derived output, export, deletion, and backup. Optional features matter: enabling sync, sharing, or AI can change which services or people receive the content.
Treat documented absence carefully
If an official page does not describe end-to-end encryption, that is not proof the product lacks it. It is a reason to keep looking or ask the vendor. This comparison uses positive statements from official sources and avoids turning missing documentation into a security verdict.
